Rev. Lorenzo Thurman,
Pastor of Community Church of God, Rockford, IL. and New Covenant Community Church, Inglewood, CA.
The Lorenzo Thurman Scholarship Fund was established in September 2003, in the memory of the late Rev. Lorenzo Thurman, who was called home in March 1996. Blessed Family Covenant Church is built on the foundation laid by Rev. Thurman, our founding father in the faith. There was a vision perceived by Mrs. Sallie Craig, "Change for Education". The Blessed Family Covenant Church's (BFCC) members received the vision and donate pocket change each Sunday. The donations are deposited into the Lorenzo Thurman Scholarship Fund.
Rev. Lorenzo Thurman encouraged and believed in the pursuit of higher education. BFCC and the Lorenzo Thurman Scholarship Fund support this pursuit while giving lasting honor to Rev. Lorenzo Thurman, who was a "Great Man of God," who loved children and gave abundantly to their future. Rev. Thurman always inspired the adults to strive for higher education as well. He detested the statement, "If you want to hide something from the African American community, put it in a book." He was an avid reader and encouraged God's people to read all types of educational literature.
Since 2003, the LTSF has awarded scholarship grants to young people entering college and adults who are continuing their education both within and outside of the Blessed Family Covenant Church body. The BFCC members continue to give every Sunday. If you would like to donate to the LTSF send a check or money order addressed BFCC/LTSF to 325 North Hillcrest Blvd., Inglewood, CA 90301 or you may donate on line at our 'Online Donations' page. BFCC is a 501c3, therefore your donation is tax deductible.
